The temple is located on the top of a hill and is locally known as Lingala Banda. A big Siva linga supported by four Nandi idols on four coordinal points on a big panavattam is being worshipped in the santum of the temple. It represents five elements of earth, the water, the air, the fire and the sky. The temple belongs to Chalukyan period and later on it was renovated during the late Vijayanagara period. A rock pond can be seen in front of the temple.
