Brief History of Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple:

Sri Ranganatha Swamy Temple is situated on the top of a hillock with natural water springs. It is built by Pemmasani Timma Nayudu, a local chieftain under the Vijayanagara kings. On the basis of architectural features, it can be assigned to the Vijayanagara period.

The temple is encompassed by a stone wall with an imposing entrance gopuram on the south. It is constructed with dressed stone blocks and consists of a sanctum, an antaralaya and a mukhamandapa.     The MukhaMandapa has four square pillars with octagonal flutings in the midst, round abacus and capitals with inverted bud motifs. The closed mukhamandapa has entrance on the south-east and west. The Temple is dedicated to Lord Ranganathaswamy who is shown as Seshasayi (on the serpent bed of Adisesha) in reclining posture with his consorts Sreedevi and Bhudevi near the feet. The sculpture measures 1.14 mts. in height and 1.74 mts in length.
